What is a category? This is a big question and many peoples are asking about blog category. The answer to this question is very simple and easy and that is category is used to organize and group your website or blog content into different segments so that your users easily find the required information they want. We can say that a blog category is a topic you address on your blog, similarly your category list play the role of table of contents for your blog. In dictionary form, category is a broader term than can include smaller, more defined topics like tags. Furthermore a category title need to be descriptive and needs to be a few words long.
In simple words, for example, there is a blog or website publishing posts about software, as you know that software is a broader term, therefore, the blog or website can divide their content on different topics like windows software, mobile software, accounting software, management software etc and for this purpose categories can be used to divide their blog or website content into different sections. And in case the blog or website not specify any category, the blog post will be sent automatically into the default category. Keep in mind that when you newly installed your wordpress, the default category will be “Uncategorized”. Only the blog administrator can change the default category by going to the Settings » Writing screen. You can add as many categories as you want, but we suggest you to keep the number limited up to 10-15. As adding a large number of categories will confuse your blog or website readers. In WordPress, you can assign multiple categories to a single post. For example you want to publish a post about free wordpress template, so think about the theme, if it is related to newspaper, magazine, fashion and technology, so you can assign all these mention categories by checking the box in front of each category.
When you visit the Web & Blog’s Solutions, you can click on any of the category, like free blogger templates, to see all the posts published under that category. Now if you want to find a post related to a more specific topic, for this purpose tags are present there. As tag is a more specific term, therefore, it further divides an article in to more details. When you tag a post with appropriate key words, it will help you to more easily find the information, you are searching for.
We recommend you use a certain amount of restraint when creating Categories. If you keep the number to a minimum (say, less than twenty or so) it’ll be easier for visitors to find posts that interest them. Creating a new Category for almost every post makes it difficult to navigate and significantly less useful for your visitors.
